I heard a song this morning that has been stuck in my mind all day. A song that I remember hearing when I was young called "Keep on the sunny side." Dad would wake us up in the morning playing a southern gospel record on the stereo. It brought back memories of early mornings, rushing to to have breakfast, and into the car so we wouldn't be late for church. It's a rather cheery song, and the message is quite positive. No matter what happens, keep on the sunny side of life. "It will help us every day, it will brighten all the way, if we keep on the sunny side of life." I noticed that if I started to think of negative things, like being annoyed by seeing the mess on the floor or unwashed dishes in the sink, "keep on the sunny side of life" would pop into my head. Maybe the lyrics weren't really written for little things like that, but it helped to get through the day. Be positive. Don't let the little things get you down.

Keep on the Sunny Side
I woke up this morning to a most beautiful and glorious day. The sun was shining so brightly into my bedroom and I could hear the birds singing their "we're awake and you should be too" songs...at 5:00am! Really??? I love the summer because it means the days are long, but I wish they didn't have to start so early! Can birds be given alarm clocks set for 6:30?
I managed to get a walk in today. It was so warm and sunny, how could we not be out to enjoy it? Feeling motivated after the walk, we looked at the flower beds and decided to have a go at weeding. Not really a job I would be keen to take on, but I must say, it was so satisfying to dig in the earth and pull up those little weeds, roots and all. I just might find another patch of garden to work in and do it all again tomorrow. Perhaps my little helper will pull weeds instead of flowers :)
